Taxes and Fees – Airfinns

Beyond the cost of the airline ticket, there are additional expenses associated with booking a flight. Automatically added and collected on behalf of authorities are government taxes and airport fees. Airfinns has no control over these charges.

If your booking includes taxes or fees, this page will explain the most typical ones, both domestic and foreign.

U.S. Federal Segment Fee

This is a flat rate that all domestic U.S. flight segments must pay. All flights, whether domestic or international, that include stops in the United States are subject to this regulation.

  • Code: ZP
  • Amount: $5.20 per segment

Domestic Transportation Tax in the United States

A proportion of the fare is used to determine this tax.

It is relevant for:

  • Transport flights inside the USA
  • Travel by air between the United States and countries with adjacent international buffer zones, including Mexico and Canada

The mileage flown within U.S. airspace is used to calculate the tax for itineraries that go through Alaska and Hawaii.

  • Code: US
  • Amount: 7.5% of the base fare

Alaska and Hawaii Ticket Tax (Travel Facilities Tax)

Flight segments that depart from the mainland United States and land in Alaska or Hawaii are subject to this fee.

  • Code: US
  • Amount: $11.40

Passenger Facility Charge (PFC)

Airports use the money they get from this tax to upgrade their facilities.

  • It can reach $4.50 for each airport
  • Up to four charges are allowed per itinerary.
  • Code: XF
  • Maximum total: $18.00

Cost of Security on September 11th

The United States Department of Transportation uses this amount to fund aviation security operations.

  • $5.60 for each one-way trip
  • $11.20 for a round-trip itinerary
  • If your itinerary involves layovers, it can be applicable multiple times.
  • Code: AY

U.S. International Transportation Tax

Who is subject to this tax?

  • Foreign aircraft taking off or landing in the USA
  • Flights departing from the United States and arriving at U.S. territories like Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands
  • Code: US
  • Amount: $22.90

Fee for the United States Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS)

From countries other than Canada, this cost is applicable to flights that land in the United States, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

  • Code: XA
  • Amount: $3.84

U.S. Immigration Inspection Fee (Customs and Border Protection Cost)

When you arrive at one of these international airports:

  • The United States
  • The island of Ponce
  • The American Virgin Islands
  • Code: XY
  • Amount: $7.00

Cost of U.S. Customs Examination

All foreign immigrants, regardless of where they entered the United States, are subject to this fee.

  • Code: YC
  • Amount: $7.39

Airport and Foreign Government Fees

Airports and governments around the world may levy additional taxes and fees on international flights. Here are several examples:

  • Fees for security
  • Assessment costs
  • Taxes payable upon departure from the airport

These fees might range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars, depending on the airport and nation.

Important considerations

  • Governments and airports, not Airfinns or airlines, are responsible for collecting taxes and fees.
  • These fees are outside of Airfinns' control.
  • The overall levy is conditional on the flight's path, any layovers, and final destinations.
  • Domestic flights typically incur lower taxes than international trips.
  • Because regulations are subject to change, tax amounts can shift at any time.

Reasons why sum of total fare could alter

The final tally of fare may reflect changes in:

  • Flight itineraries are changed
  • The inclusion of layovers
  • We have updated the government fees
  • Policy changes at airports

Because of this, the eventually confirmed pricing might not match the first search results.
